Well I just got through catching up on this thread, it felt really good, just like a few years ago when trotty started this thread, new people mixed with the old, thats a good cocktail,
Rodney. PS has anyone heard from trotty Im worried about her, I hope she is OK, she hasn't posted for ages, last thing I read was she was not getting on very well with her chemotherapy. |

)I'm so excited about all the potential day trips. York is half an hour away, and Swaledale - the MOST beautiful place in the whole world IMO - is just 80 minutes away. Plus the coast and the moors ... bring it on!!

No! I was just marking my diary for the Betty's date.
![]() Regarding eye doctors - my mum went for a check-up on Friday because her eye sight has been getting worse in one eye. They said it could be a cataract but couldn't see it, so said it was worth getting it checked out at the hospital to be on the safe side. When she got home that afternoon, she had a message from the specialist's office at Leeds Infirmary asking her to come in on Monday morning. She went today and it is an early stage cataract thankfully and not something more serious. But what great service - and of course, no bill.

I am, Gab but even if I stay, I want to sell my home and downsize so the process of getting rid of stuff will be needed anyway.
I've never really talked about "my story" on here before but I have a son on Vancouver Island who has drug and alcohol addiction issues and I think I have always been waiting for him to be on stable footing but I have spent about the last 30+ years of my life dealing with his father's alcoholism and my son's problems that I now think I need to enjoy the twilight years of my life how I see fit. It's been a nightmare. Time for me to rebuild my life and have some fun and that is looking like England I think. When I read of people who are worried about leaving children behind, I always think to myself that they have nothing to worry about, at least their children can visit them in the UK but it will be a while before my son can get a passport. I have just reached a point where I have had enough. ![]() So I shall go though the motions and see how I feel as I go along. I know I'm very back and forth on this. ![]()

thats what we do here, we Just jump in whenever we have something to say,I have my thoughts on the NHS, my experiences so far have been nothing but absolutely brilliant, I have suffered with Psoriasis for 40 years, not a single Dermatologist in America could keep it away for more then 6 months before it came back again with a vengeance, here in UK my first visit to my GP got me an emergency appointment with a dermatologist the very next day, He set me up with UV light treatment at the hospital that lasted 5 months, and it eventually cleared it up ---- and no sign of it coming back I was never offered light treatment in the U.S. probably because the doctors knew that the health provider insurance co's would not pay for the treatment cause its way too expensive, I have had a hernia operation, and Ive seen my GP many times for different things, and all this in just the 14 months Ive been home, My Mum Just had a compleat knee replacement, she had wonderful care in the hospital, she said the nurses were wonderful, and the food was amazing and lots of it, she could choose from 4 things on the menu for lunch and dinner, AND she had a private room all to herself in the new wing of the hospital, ----- And all this for free!!!! ![]() Mum has been home now for three weeks, and a nurse has come in to our house EVERY single day to give her an injection for preventing blood clots, and to change the dressing when needed, Mum and I have regular check ups at the dentist EVERY six months, I couldn't have done that in the US, I would go for years without seeing the dentist ----- even when I had company insurance, cause the 50/50 payment would always go into hundreds OR thousands of dollars for just my share of the bill, --------- plus I just dont trust American dentists who are only thinking of how much money that they can squeeze out of you, I swear that they make up a lot of work that really does not have to be done at all, But having said all this about the NHS I do realize that I am very fortunate that all my experiences have been so wonderful, but I think that it depends a lot on where in the U.K. you live in, its a bit hit and miss I think from town to town or county to county, with the service you get, Take care all, Rodney. |
