But Boardwalk empire is another series by the same team behind the wire and is really well done. Devils Double is also a great movie. I watched that last week. Chris Last edited by Chris_m : Dec 5th 2011 at 7:40 pm. |

I loved Source Code (perfect for in-flight watching), but watched it at least three times before I fully got it all (quibble: at the end, shouldn't 'Sean' be in it, not Jake Gyllenhall's character?). It also had the superb Vera Farmiga in it, which always raises a film by a notch or three.
But better still.............. I totally recommend 'Super 8', which was directed by JJ Abrams but has "I love Spielberg" tattooed on its forehead (he produced it anyway). Set in 1979, kids making a zombie home movie (hence the title), train crash, mystery happenings, military involvement, an alien......... but all brilliantly told, and featuring an unusually superb cast of teenage actors (Elle Fanning, Dakota's baby sister, is astonishing). It will appeal to an age range of, say, 5 to 80.

Wanted to revive this thread to offer a solid recommendation for "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" which I belatedly caught up with yesterday.
The plot is well-known now but a superb cast are all utterly riveting (Tom Hardy particularly good, Mark Strong, Benedict "Sherlock" Silly-Name, Colin Firth predictably excellent) - but Gary Oldman is just astonishing. Oldman seem to find something extra in everything he does, but if you ever wondered what 'facial acting' is, here is the masterclass. Don't expect Bond/Bourne shoot-outs and action - this is a film that actually asks you to think..............

We watched "The Devil's Double" last night, the story of the man who was hijacked into becoming Uday Hussein's body double.
Worth watching for Dominic Cooper's excellent performance (he plays both the psychotic Uday and the double), the plot is somewhat vague and fails to really get into either's character. The locals will love it for the mindless violence and foul language! |

The English Patient is my fav but being a ruffy tuffy bloke I probably should also throw in a few other choices.. watched The Descendants which was enjoyable and War Horse is a good bit of Spielberg. Anyone see the Thing (not the original John Carpenter but the prequel that came out last year ? Don't watch it in a dark room .. or in the snow.
