Default embarassing misunderstanding UK rescue workers in Japan

UK rescue workers say they had to leave quake-hit Japan because they could not secure the necessary paperwork from the British embassy in Tokyo. Bit of a disgrace really..

Makes one proud, doesn't it?

Kind of reminds me of this story.

Only us Brits could apparently buy an Olympic countdown clock from some dodgy fella in a services on the M5.

Scotch or not - but you are right. I sent a cheque to the red cross and it was addressed to some place in Scotland - just as a donation because I did not like the look of the Oxfam or ICRC sites - looks like I paid for air fares!! Waste of money.

Can I claim it back from the embassy?

Sorry for putting you on the spot Rubbermat - you don't seem to have any knowledge whatsoever.

..I'll go and ask my MP.

I agree - and I was born in scochland - but getting a reply is a commendable strategy except, of course, if you are trying to lean the English language.

...any suggestions as to a word that rhymes with matt?

Yep, another good example of cock-up. The first of course it's unforgivable, international issue, and more importantly those people need all the help they can get.

As regards the Olympics I think that cock-up stayed within UK borders, I hope so, because for the life of me I can't really understand all this anticipation and the "500 days to go" nonsense, I can't see people around the world getting so worked up over the Olympics as we are, well, they are, I'm certainly not, I find the World Cup much more entertaining, despite England being rubbish at it..

Oh come on - the Olympics is a brilliant time to find out which country's black-african immigrant athletes are the best!

Yep…'twas the International Rescue Corps based in Grangemouth, Stirlingshire. Their trip was approved by Japanese Embassy in London and authorities in Japan, and both welcomed their help.

The team was forced to return after the UK embassy refused to give permission for them to work in Japan because it would have made the embassy legally responsible for them. Though, the latter didn't affect the other British rescue team from England.

Roll on the day we can have a Scottish Embassy !

Nice one, Brains !

Can't really give credit to the "Scotties" as it was was originally an English charity based at Medmenham and it was Terry Price who helped launch the corps with Gerry Anderson (Thunderbids). Their patron is Richard Branson (Virgin group).

Notwithstanding, the core also helps out in the Falkirk - Grangemouth area, especially during heavy winter snows...at least there is no British Embassy in Edinburgh to mess things up !
