Default Re: Is the new anti-smoking law working?

Had a phone call last night from a freind to let me know that in a certain area of Madrid all the bars allow smoking after 18:00 as there are no inspectors working at that time and you'd need to be a tad mad to stand in front of everyone and call the police to complain. To date non of these bars have had any bother so I'll check them out tonight and see if it's true.

So much for freedom of choice. Am back in the UK for a while and the health nazi's are on a role. Next you will be shot on sight for smoking... And No I do not smoke, but I don't care if someone else does.

What a great idea.
Don't suppose there'll be too many repeat offenders either.

True, reducing the smoking population will have soon reached a point where they can start on persecuting some other section of society. some suggestions:

People who eat Mc Donalds (Get fat die early)

People who drink (Get fat and drunk then die early)

Anyone who has a heart attack, (as they must have bad habits to get a heart condition)

Ex-pats who live in Spain (must be crooks)

And worst of all ANYONE who disagrees with them !!!!!!

The guy in Marbella who said he would not obey the law in his bar has been fined 145. 000 €'s with a possible fine of another 10.000.

Well, as I said they'll all have to step in line at some stage, just a matter of whether they do it the hard way or the easy way.
Seems this guy chose the hard way.
Do I read that right ? 145,000, (One hundred and forty five thousand euros) ?
Hell, he's definitely done it the hard way, maybe even put himself out of business.
Will certainly make the rest of the rebels sit up and take notice.

Can´t you remember when you used to be able to smoke in the cinema and at work. Thank goodness this has stopped. It is so much nicer being able to go out for a meal and enjoy it without an arsehole with a big cigar lighting up next to you.

The guy said on the news that he has no intention of paying the fine. He says if they come to close down the bar then he'll simply leave the country.

Not sure what country he'll go to, I guess one where he can run a smoking bar

The guy clearly has a screw loose

Exactly, that was what I first thought.

Guess some people are using the smoking ban as a scapegoat for going bust! Much the same as what people have done in the UK

Looks like there is a way around this for a few.

http://www.pymesyautonomos.com/legal...ley-antitabaco

ley antitabaco el artículo 2º dice lo siguiente:
Quote:
A efectos de esta Ley, en el ámbito de la hostelería, se entiende por espacio
al aire libre todo espacio no cubierto o todo espacio que estando cubierto esté rodeado lateralmente por un máximo de dos paredes, muros o paramentos

Not true in my home town where three pubs went under in a matter of months, one was a dump, a real 'mens only' pit and but other two did fine until the ban. Talking to a couple of landlords who do quite well both said they have not recovered from the pre ban days.

As an ex smoker myself the ban matters not, for a landlord to have his right of choice removed is appaling.
