At this stage it looks like the worst affected areas will be Innisfail down to Ingham.

Yes the flooding will be the 'worse case scenario' at this stage with the storm surge coinciding with high tide.

It may veer north again and still hit us head on. Even if it crosses south of Innisfail as predicted it will still devastate Cairns. I'm getting to higher ground; may have no choice anyway as the police have been given powers to forcibly evacuate people if necessary.

Anyone being casual about this (and they are out there) should be reading the QLD Police FB, if the warnings being given there don't wake you up, nothing will.

Confirmed.

Cyclone knocks out island weather radar

“Thankfully there was a decision made yesterday to evacuate the four staff on Willis Island,” Premier Anna Bligh said today.

It's fascinating watching the satellite and peeking at the webcams but it does kind of feel like rubber necking Am loving the comments on the side - 'Yeah, I'm getting the surf board out for this one'!; 'if the power goes out, what happens, will we lose the webcam'?

I'd rather follow it from a webcam and informed websites than switch on commercial TV for the news ...

Best comment so far "Worst Strip Show Ever!" ... to take nothing away from the gravity of the situation ...

"People bunkering down at home for the onslaught of Cyclone Yasi should prepare a safe room and not panic if their roof lifts off, authorities say."

Jesus. Exactly when should you start to panic, if not when your roof rips off your house ?
I would be panicking once my windows started shaking.
Clearly I am not cut out for living in the tropics

You can officially start to panic if you see anybody like this....
