Hi!
I was wondering where everyone likes to go for a few. My favourite place is Johnny Fox's on Granville (just past Nelson) ... on Sunday's they do a roast for $6! Its brilliant! ![]() |

Doolin's on Granville is nice for a pint but go early as it soon gets full of noisy Canadian hooray Henry types spilling beer on you and spitting in your ear. I quite like the Fox and Hound on Alma and W. Broadway although if you want a quiet pint make sure they're not having that Irish music on, because that gets old in a hurry. Both places have darts though.

Morrisey |Room used to be ok. Failing that, I liked the Cascade Room on Main street. there's also a few watering holes in gastown. the irish heather is good, but a bit spendy since it's one of those posh gastro places. the blarney stone is not bad these days too.
ones to avoid are the elephant and castle, chesire cheese and just about any when the hockey is on. Not to mention any selling 3.50 pints as they will likely be on Hastings! |

we used to be forbidden from going there as the North Burnaby Inn, as it used to be called, was owned by an Hell's Angel and was (and apparently still is) a quasi club house after the Burnaby Club house was closed down.
I used to like the Bimmini in Kits till it burned down. There have been a lot of new pubs opening of late in Vancouver. Gastown has had at least 4 or 5 places open. (Alibi room, the Diamond, Guilt, Pour House). I don't mind the Yaletown Brew Pub as well. Downtown needs a few decent watering holes. I can't think of even one on Robson. The Kingston Arms is not bad. English Bay as a few OK spots, the Bayside Lounge, The Slyvia, and Checkers (avoid the Soho and Dover Arms) A lot better than it was a few years back. It's just okay, but being walking distance is a bonus. Also the Legion. Shuffle board, anyone? |
