After some fiddling,,, it seems that to exorcise these demons you need to press Ctrl and Shift together. Pressing them toggles the keyboard between French and English, at least on my keyboard.

Now all I have to do is to find out how to disable this.

I tried all that fiddling yesterday - everything seems fine on mine today so I'm not going to start messing with it, in fact I'm putting it all away now until I get home from work...before the temptation get to much for me

Every time I press number 8 letter I or letter k the bloody thing beeps why.
