Default April/11 new regulations effecting TWP will take effect.

New rules have been released regarding Temp Foreign
Workers on a work permit see below:

This should be extremely interesting to those persons on long term TWP. The Minister has announced today that of April/11 new regulations effecting TWP will take effect.

The most interesting (to my mind) is the following:

Establish a limit of a cumulative duration of four years of
work for TFWs, followed by a period of at least six years in
which they would not be authorized to work in Canada. The
Regulations would provide for exemptions for certain workers,
including those who intend to perform work pursuant to
international agreements. This provision would signal clearly
to both workers and employers that the purpose of the TFWP
is to address temporary labour shortages, as well as encourage
the use of appropriate programs and pathways to permanent
residency in order to respond to the long-term labour needs of
employers;

The full text of the proposed Regulations can be found in the Canada gazette here:

Yes correct.

They are clamping down on TWP as they see them just as that... Temporary not perminant.

Dont think it will affect a great deal but poss some who wont, dont or cant apply for PR for various reasons (crim record, affording it etc).

Bearing in mind it can take quite a while for your PR to come thru you'd be looking at starting PR application asap or no later than the 2yr point just in case to allow for any possible complications.

This as well...

"In Alberta, this immigration pipeline is so out of control that even the province’s employment and immigration minister, Thomas Lukaszuk, has conceded it needs to be tightened up as quickly as possible."

I think the 6 year wait should apply to all that come on a WP, then return to their homeland, then a year or two latter have another bash at living here
