Make sure you get your marriage licence at least 24 hours in adavance of your wedding as well. It will be good for 60 days.

I called City Hall to ask if there was any way to speed up the certificate but they said no and that I should get it inside 4 weeks otherwise contact them...I would go in there in person but as its a journey Ill just wait and see...

They must have changed things. We got ours the same day we got married and there were people online there getting extra copies of their certificates even though they weren't just married and hadn't gotten married at City Hall. The people in front of us had lost their certificate and just had to show their birth certificates and ID's. Did you try vital check? They are super quick in getting you copies. You just type in your info online.

Well my certificate has arrived! For anyone else who is marrying in New York City my certificate took 2 weeks to arrive.

One of the chefs that I work with got married at City Hall this past week. He got his certificate straight away. So if you do get married in City Hall in NYC you will get your certificate right away. Also the people on the phone at City Hall don't always have the proper information. Kind of like the misinformation line at USCIS.
