A selection of brilliant Scottish Bands (spawned from the Live Aid thread)
Talking of Simple Minds got me thinking of some of my favourite Scottish bands of that era.... so for no apparent reason here are 5 classics:-
Ultravox (when they were important - John Foxx on vox)
Goodbye Mr MacKenzie (where Shirley Manson of Garbage first appeared) - The Rattler is their biggest hit, but this is a classic:
Simply brilliant band, should have "broke" America, one of Nirvana's favourites, but not as much as another of the MacKenzies, the bassist was Nirvana's roadie.... the great Teenage Fanclub
The sublime Primal Scream... here is a lesser known beauty....
another Creation act - the brilliant JAMC

I only started liking them after seeing their Live Aid set...how's that for a double thread diversion!

I'm gutted I haven't had the chance to see them this time round. Maybe someone will treat me to a trip to see them in Munich or Amsterdam for my 40th. (Hint, hint wifie)

I liked Travis. No, I have no shame. And I saw Deacon Blue supporting SM a year or two back in Newcastle. They went down a storm.
