Default Long term bike and apartment hire

Hi All

We arrived in Goa yesterday and are planning to be here for 6 months. Loving it so far despite the rain. Can anyone tell me roughy how much we should expect to pay if we hire a motorcycle for 6 months? Also, we're looking to rent a house or apartment so if you know of anywhere that has vacancies, please let us know. Looking for 2 bed with cooking facilities.

We're in Colva at the moment and we will probably have a look at Candolim and Calangute too. Open minded though, so let us know if there's anywhere else you'd recommend especially. We'd love to meet any of you expats that have been brave enough to stay for the monsoon so let us know if anyone is up for a beer

All you have to do is ask around, you will find loads of places to rent.Don't pay more than 10000 rps for an apartment and 15000 for a house, but you will probably get it for less.

We are here all monsoon, but go back to the Uk next week for 3 weeks. We don't stay too far from Colva,so can meet for a beer when we get back.

Hi Micky

Welcome to BE.
Glad to hear you're having a good time out there.
For bike hire look towards about 100 rupees or less per day if you are keeping it for 6 months - remember it is out of season so you should be able to get it very cheap as the renters have loads sitting idle at present.

Unfortunately Im in the UK at present but hope you find some good beer buddies.

Hi Dred

Thanks for the info.

What do you think an Enfield or similar would be? My boyfriend would love one but we aren't sure if it's affordable.

Hope you're enjoying the UK - bet the weather there is better than here. Don't think I have ever said that about England before!!

Hi Michelle

I can't give exact quotes on an Enfield, but I would try for 150 rupees or less per day, bearing in mind it is out of season. Definitely maximum of 250 per day. Just make sure you bargain hard and play a couple of renters off against each other if you can. In Goa, bartering is a way of life so don't feel embarrassed to do so because they will give you a stupidly high price to start with....this is Goa !
The weather was very hot here today so my OH and I went to Stratford for the day - very nice.

Enjoy Goa

I'd avoid the Enfield if I were you - a nostalgic & romantic idea, but they aren't particularly reliable & you are unlikely to find a renter with an electric start - valuable if the rider values his or her ankle.

Try for a Bajaj instead - either a Pulsar or an Avenger (if the pillion feels more secure with a back rest & a less 'perched on high' seating position).

As for price, don't forget that in Goa less potential customers does not mean lower prices, it can mean higher prices as they want to extract the same amount of money from less people. The in season price of a Pulsar or an Avenger is Rs250 to Rs300 per day - just make sure your chosen steed has some tread on the tyres, meat on the brake pads/shoes & preferably some oil on the chain & IN THE ENGINE! It also helps if the electric start actually works, both bikes have them but more often than not the battery is knackered so the electric start doesn't work & you end up resorting to the kick start!

If you are still in Colva, try down the main drag towards the beach, about 100 yards after where there is a road off to the right (and a resaturant on the corner called the Saga Kinara) - from memory the guy calls himself John or Diniz. . . . . . . . .

There is another guy based not too far away in Cansaulim called Lancaster - he has a few bikes for rent & this is the link to his website:

http://www.safespecialservices.com/index.html

Good luck.

... given the standard of the roads (and driving) you might think about a car instead of a bike - you should be able to get it down to about Rs. 300 a day for a long rental.
