Cool Cat Poo

How can I stop the neighbourhood cats pooing on my veggie plot? It's really beginning to peeve me. The whole plot now looks like a giant took his socks off and lay down across my silverbeet and carrots. It's not a giant's napping ground as there are tell tale signs of poo and digging though.

Any ideas? My neighbour suggested bark chippings - does anyone know if this is effective? I'd let my 2 dobermanns out to scare them off, but their poos are bigger than the cats'.

I sympathise as I was absolutely plagued by them in London. Never found a deterrent that worked.

We found that orange and lemon peel worked for a while until it dried out.
Big fence?

They say Lion poo does the trick!! If you should have any problems getting a lion to poo in your garden, then dusting of white pepper should suffice.

You could always try: http://www.zoodoo.co.nz/

Citrus smells will do the trick until they dry out!

Try putting some of your doggie's poo there, maybe the smell of that might scare it off

Water is always a good 1 to use....cats hate water and getting wet, but it would mean a "stake out" to get the little bliter

Sticks, 'planted' in the beds among the veggies, basically cutting down on the available poohing space! Or a good application of cow manure - doesn't have to be lion!- as long as your dogs don't snack on it......

Either plant curry plants strategically (not sure actually you can get them here) or sprinkling curry powder on soil between plants on on boxing around veg patch (if you have any) seems to deter cats.

I had a next door neighbour when I was little who used to squirt a very weak washing-up liquid solution at any offending cat in her garden - the idea being that when they licked their fur it would taste yukky and result in mouthfuls of bubbles and she hoped that they'd associate that unpleasant experience with her garden and stay away. This was over 30 years ago and I've no idea whether it worked or not but before anyone panics about animal cruelty, I equally don't remember the neighbourhood being littered with dying cats foaming at the mouth, so I guess it was a harmless deterent

Thanks everyone, I think I'll go with the curry powder as I have loads in the pantry. But first I'll have to get out there and clean up all the doings.

If you can catch the cat while it's taking a dump, throw a bucket of water over it...i promise it will never take a dump again on your patch.
