Prioritisation of commitments FAIL.
I agree with Rete. Not all cultures (or people) automatically put a wife ahead of already existing family members. Either way, it was the OP's decision to return home to some family commitments...who are we to say that shouldn't be his priority? If he has to wait many months to return to his wife, so be it.

I agree with you and Rete. He can stay married to his wife for many years to come - hopefully till death parts them. There are other important family relationships in most people's lives, apart from one's spouse.

Be prepared to show evidence that you intend to leave at the end of the visit.
Just to clarify, if my fiancée and I get married in say Sept. and we then immediately apply for an I-130 and I then return to the UK can I still visit the US whilst the procedure is ongoing? Not every few weeks obviously but 2 or 3 times for a couple of weeks whilst waiting for my interview etc to go through?

Yes, you can. At least, you are allowed to. It's up to the POE officer each time, whether to let you in or not. Bring proof of your ties back home in case they ask.

You would in all probability have no trouble at all. The stumbling block is the rules are not black and white and it all comes down on any given day to the individual decision of the CBP officer who sees you at the POE. It does seem to be that they quite often give you a warning about not doing it again and letting you in that time, but there is always a risk of being refused entry.
