Not really, I've just got a lot of capital in the Pathfinder and know that if I come down in price in vehicles and get some change then I'll never be allowed by my dear lady to step back up

Must admit have never really considered VW and the when I mentioned the Golf Mrs C's eyes lit up and she declared that she always really wanted one of those. Time for a test drive me thinks. The new golf looks really neat.

Sadly therein lies the unfortunate reality of it all. If we think fuel prices are bad nowadays wait a couple of years..

i) Keep it invested. ii) Take a bus.

Buying a new car will cost you much more in depreciation than you are spending on fuel and much more than any saving you would make on reduced fuel consumption.

>>Probably I would. But also one to consider, and often a hybrid that doesn't get the attention it deserves is the Honda Civic Hybrid. It's about $10k cheaper (at about $30k I think) and looks exactly like a normal Civic. The reasons I think it doesn't get the coverage as much as the Prius is because Toyota decided to productise a completely separate Hybrid car, which has been great for the Hollywood A listers who want to be seen as "green", even though they use their private jets to get around the world. It's like the iPod, they have become status symbols more than anything.<<

*They've* all bought Tesla Roadsters fully electric, 0 - 60mph in 3.9 secs and a 240 mile range on full charge. Bl**dy nice looking to boot (though not much of *that* <g>).

Test driving a VW Golf TDI tomorrow. Am quite excited about it. Never actually driven a VW...ever. Just seems to be a marque I have never thought about before.

I have the 2.0l TDi (mk5) and it's a very good car (200kph without trying - 5.0l/100km when you are) - basically the same car as the new mk6.

Get the DSG box.

I'm looking at the new 125kW Jetta diesel - despite the 4-6 month lead time.
