Ray, I'm just interested ... nothing more. Why do you ask so many questions about so many different countries? Are you considering moving somewhere eventually or is it just natural inquisitiveness

Ray,
How is your Dutch? I ask because last night on Dutch TV there was a programme called Ik Verteck. This one was about a cople who moved to Croatia. Information here:
http://www.ikvertrek.nl/uitzendingen...es-van-deurzen
To watch the show on-line click the little in the bekijk column for the programme dated the 12 Nov.

It seems that because the country is not in the EU there are some formalities which, we in the EU, do not have to do.

Thanks for this !
Frankly , not being in the EU would be one of the greatest attractions of moving there ;
however , with the EU hell-bent on enlargement , as they appear to be :
there can't be more than a few years left , before Croatia , too , is admitted .
Then , for those who moved there to escape the rules of Brussels , it'll all be back to square one , or worse : more taxes , more costs , more bureaucracy , less employment and further drop in living standards ...
We are all doomed , mefinkz !

It is swings and roundabouts with the EU, yes too many rules and regulations but sometimes we can benefit fro EU money, with strings attached (as you would expect).
It was just the importation of all the household goods that seem to be a big problem. The problem with the health inspector being friends with the mayor will not go away even if the country joined the EU.

The population in general seem really nice like the solicitor etc wanting them to succeed.

As a long-time punter , I fancy myself as somewhat of an expert on Croatia's ( UNSUSTAINABLE ) "economy model" ;
all of which could actually be just fine , for a Brit/EU/other ,
retiring there on , say : 3KEuros/month , whingeing about high inflation and home prices but ...pending : devaluation/ of local MIckey-Mouse currency ...???( Once IMF are called in , to sort out that sad operetta , there ) albeit ;
once the horrors of Eu-taxation hit , not much will remain rosy , in
what is already now a hugely overtaxed , dormant , corruption-and-crime-scandals' raped place...

And there is you living in the heart of it all.

Another reason to move is because the Belgium Government are looking a the Dutch proposals for every car to be fitted with a device so that you have to pay per KM. No EU involved there!

The Dutch plan won't work ; the Germans have already laughed it out !
however , there's so much else unpleasant & pending , on the EU horison :
as I hinted earlier and/or elsewhere ,
the further away from all this = the Better ( for some !? ) .
