Hi all, new member and this is my first step to applying for the VE175 visa to Australia now that ive decided to go. Just a bit of clarification if anyone has experience or advice.
First thing im going to do is the skills assessment to Engineers Australia as I`m a Civil Engineer. Im from Ireland and did my Cert (2 years) + Diploma (1 year) there, then transferred to Uni in UK (into year 3 of 4) and did final 2 years (so a total of 5 years) and got my BEng(hons) Degree. Will I need to provide copies of all 3 qualifications or just the degree which basically overrides the other two. More hastle but would rather do it once and do it right! Thanks, any advice appreciated. Mark Last edited by mrmarcus09 : Nov 7th 2009 at 12:55 pm. |

EA looks to see if you have courses that would qualify as real undergraduate degree program courses- either standalone courses or a combination of courses from different places. Basically, are all the courses combined together enough to qualify you as an Engineer in your field when compared to an Australian degree. I guess if you provide all the documentation in one go, it will get done faster. Are you (your University) under any bilateral recognition arrangement like the Washington Accord? (Not sure if there is something called a London Accord , but there might be something similar) |

Hey. Yes I have no doubt the degree alone would be recognised by the Australian equivelent of the Institution of Civil Engineers here. But if I didnt send the cert and diploma paperworks it would look like I did a 4 year degree in 2 years and I can see confusion coming......
I`ll just send all 3 copies, that way there would be no doubt. Anyone know where do I find a justice of the peace to sign/ stamp my copies? After the skills assessment paperwork is sent off, what is the next logical step, the main application form? ta. |

Hi Marcus
You need to wait until you receive your positive skills assessment back from Engineers Australia to lodge it with your visa application form. Have you checked yet whether you meet all DIAC's requirements for a subclass 175 visa? That's really the first thing you need to do, even before applying for a skills assessment. Here's a link to the eligibility criteria: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...-applicant.htm If you complete the table on the link, it will calculate your points. You need 120 to be eligible to apply for a subclass 175 visa. The links on the left hand side of the table will take you to more information about each eligiblity requirement. If you don't make the 120 points, you could consider a state sponsored visa, which only needs 100 points: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...migration/176/ http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/gener...migration/475/ HTH Best regards Susan

So I guess when I get all my academic papers in order, the skills assessment will be the first thing to submit? Marcus |

Hi Marcus
Yes, that's right. You need to submit your skills assessment application first. You could work on collating all your other documentation while EA is processing your skills assessment, so when you receive your skills assessment results you'll be ready to lodge your visa application. Best regards Susan
