Resident return visa

It's not as simple as that for some, though. Not all countries allow for dual citizenship and so in order to become a citizen here some people would have to give up his/her citizenship from their country of birth.

Where is it written that anyone has to ask permission to go on holiday? I'm confused.

You are not asking for permission to go on holiday, a RRV is about getting back into Australia after the holiday is over and if the 5 year PR visa is expired.

I repeat; unbelievable that you have to apply for a visa to be allowed back into the country you are permanent resident in when coming back from a holiday. I would have thought a "Permanent Resident" visa was permanent unless you give up your residence.

What do you mean "I repeat". You clearly said it was unbelievable that one had to ask permission to go on holiday. Hence I was aiming to clarify.

It is permanent, whilst you are in the country. If you choose to leave the country you need to ensure you can get back in. The rules are clear before you move to Aus. If you don't like them, don't come.

Which doesn't stop many people from such countries becoming Australian citizens anyway.

Where did I say they didn't? I was merely pointing out to the poster that it is not always a simple matter of getting citizenship.

Yes, obviously I didn't mean it literally; What happens if you have to leave suddenly and can't wait for the RRV to be processed?! Please don't defend the Australian immigration laws, it's really not necessary.

Then you have to get your RRV offshore (can be done if you meet the residence requirement, but a lot more hassle and delay), but that's something that should never happen ... it's really not smart to be without valid passport and re-entry visa.

Note that initial migrant visas have a 5 year re-entry facility built in and it's straightforward to get an RRV if you live in Australia, unclear why you should expect more.

But a little more query if my 5 year PR visa is expired and after that i have completed my 4 years citizenship requirment.
Then can eligible for Australian citizenship?

yes if you meet all requirements (u dont need RRV to apply to be a citizen)
