An outsider’s lament
Kamal Gaur, by email
I am an Indian who loves Goa and its people since1982, when I visited the state for the first time.
In 2007, I decided to make Goa my home when I retire in a few years. I bought two pieces of land in Anjuna, one to build a small home and another to set up a beach shack. Before I had only friends in Goa, but since I bought these plots, some friends have started disliking me and I am often called an outsider. I get regular verbal attacks and threats and have also been attacked physically three times, by known people. Fortunately the police of Anjuna have been prompt to protect me.
On Anjuna beach land, I have planted at least 250 trees, and they are growing well and turning the dry place into a green zone. Have I, a so-called outsider, done something wrong, by buying land to make a home, to do business and planting trees?

Mr Gaur.....DO YOU NOT REALISE "GOA IS FOR GOANS"!

I wondered if he was a Goan who lived in UK or an out of state Indian.

Could be a sly attempt by a businessman to get publicity and garner FN support in expanding his beach shack operations? Highly unlikely that an Indian businessman in Goa would face opposition since most of the commercial operations in coastal areas are owned and /or operated by non Goans.

Really fed up with the shack saga - again taking bread out of their own peoples mouths.
