Default E106 update?

l'Assurance Maladie has advised our E106 cover ceases in January 2010. My wife is 60 in March. We have our Carte Vitale and use a top-up insurance, also an operation has been booked for January.
Advice and comment welcome on extending/renewal of E106 or similar.

The E106 is a one time treat unless you happen to say come to France for a couple of months with the intention of being a resident here, Then return to the UK as a resident make NI payments then on a one to one basis the DWP will recalculate your eligibility.

In March your wife can have a E121, Which when submitted to CPAM will cover both of you. It does however leave you with a bit of uncovered period.

IMHO may prove better to find a Private option for that period.

Thanks for that. What is IMHO? With our Mutuelle insurance top-up, might we be covered for the op in mid-January (E106 out after 2 Jan)?

Now it's me feeling humble. Doh!

We need to speak to our Mutuelle, key issue is getting this op funded.

Well, we went to see CPAM and had a highly positive conversation. They will provide cover as an interim, potentially with a 'cotization', which will cover an operation and regular medicines.

To obtain this we are providing a form from the UK Pension Service, which has arrived written in French, refusing a 'prolongation' of the E106 cover. This together with birth and marriage certificates will enable us to get the cover for the gap period. And, we need to show a French tax return for 2008 which as we pay no tax shows we do not have the level of funding to privately obtain cover.

Will post updates as we discover more.
