Hi All
Just a few little questions, As we live in a part furnished flat we will have plenty of room in our container, is there anything we should maybe buy before we leave that is expensive in NS ive already had great advice from nikki but there might be a few different suggestions that have not been thought of. My daughter really enjoys going to Rainbows do they have a Brownies or Rainbows groups in NS. and the last question how cold does it really get what type of coats, gloves and hats would we need is ski wear good enough for everyday use? Im thinking of buying it all before we move out in the sales. any advice would be really great xx

I don't have any experience of NS, but have been to Girl Guides Canada camps in the past. Compared to other countries, their guides is quite similar to the UK. The Rainbow level is called Sparks. Here is the link to the NS website & you should be able to email a query asking for contact details to the town / area you are moving to. They tend to be structured geographically, just as in the UK. Seems a good way to make friends. http://www.girlguides.ns.ca/ Bali

You would be better picking up winter clothes once here. I don't think you would easily find kiddies or adult winter boots that insulate to -40C in the UK. It would also be cheaper to buy winter jackets and ski gloves, etc here too. ![]()

I just happened to stumble across this site while looking for a realty site. I'm located in Nova Scotia - in the city of Halifax (capital of NS). Clothing is inexpensive in NS, and while it CAN get cold, it does not stay cold for months at a time. Between January and February, it can go as low as -15 to -30 with windchill but it rarely goes lower than that. It's not as bad as people think :-) There are a lot of great places to shop where you can find a good winter coat for less than $30 Canadian. If anyone has any questions about NS, don't hesitate to ask. I also work for a Real Estate company and a new home builder (KMH Homes). I would be happy to answer any of your questions, if I am able.

We are in the same boat. We have bought coats/shoes etc, to get us started, but I am sure they will be more suited if we buy them there. The only real thing we did buy before we move (we move in 2 weeks!) was a new dinner set. Living in Stoke in the heart of the potteries, it seemed crazy to buy over there. Also beware there is no IKEA shops in NS. Furniture does seem to be quite dear although electronics etc seemed a bit cheaper. There is always Walmart!
