just applied for PR!its all a secret though..shhh

so my story is i met my girlfriend in australia(she's canadian) after i moved there from the uk on a PR visa. Since we met i have come over to canada on temp work visa for 1 year. I am 6 months into my 1 year visa and i have decided to make the plunge and apply for canadian PR(skilled migrant). This is all a secret from my girlfriend, she has no idea i have applied for PR. I applied today and i really want to know from all you guys out there what i can expect during the process and what sort of realistic time period??
For my Australian PR i had to get police checks,medicals, refrences from all employers, proof that im a chef etc. So im just curious as to what i should expect from the process.
I have already payed to process fee and filled out/ sent application etc.
