Always Right...Sometimes

LOS ANGELES—A Los Angeles doctor has been arrested for allegedly falsifying the results of medical exams for immigrants applying for visas.
Officials say 72-year-old Levon Tebelekian is charged with fraud and making false statements after a joint investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the California Medical Board. ICE's Miguel Unzueta says immigrants applying for permanent residency must undergo a medical exam to ensure they don't have any medical conditions or diseases that could threaten public health. Investigators say immigrants paid Tebelekian up to $150 to complete the medical examination form, but never saw the doctor. If convicted, the physician faces up to 80 years in prison http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_13705217 Lots of medical to be redone I bet .,..

This is a problem that was rampant a number of years ago in the Los Angeles area. I heard of one clinic -- close quite a while ago -- which wanted to avoid the COST of certain expensive blood tests, even though the alien's had been charged for a full medical examination, including blood tests. So: the clinic would use the SINK test. Throw the blood in the SINK. If it turned red, then the patient was negative for disease.
Needless to say, this clinic got whacked by USINS.

Some years back I attended an AOS interview for a Special Immigrant Minister and the Reverend's wife. When the DAO opened the I-693 for the wife, the doc had marked "positive" on the STD blood tests! Silence, embarrassment and then I was allowed to examine the report -- the actual lab results were attached and somehow "negative" became "positive" on the I-693. I asked if DAO would accept the printed lab results -- supervisor said "no." We brought back the corrected I-693 two days later and wife obtained LPR two days after hubby and children.
