Default Hants or Colchester County- info please.

Hello viewers.

I am hoping to travel to NS next year and look at areas under the Community Identified Stream.

If anyone is from the Hants or Colchester County areas then any info about which areas are worth a look at from a 'nice homes but not too rural', 'nice schools' and 'low crime- nice people' perspective them i would love to hear from you.

My family (wife and 3 kids) will hopefully come though my wife is a little reluctant to emigrate at the moment due to family ties, but things are looking up!!!!

Any info, advice on the areas, CIS process along with PMs if you prefer are more than welcome.

Cheers.

Maybe the primary consideration should be jobs.
What is your line of work ? There isn't much point in living in a "nice" place if you can't find work to support yourselves.
There are a few expats in the area, including some newcomers.
Please give us some more details to work with and then you should be able to get some help.

I may apply to Halifax Regional, but honestly.. i'm not hell bent on continuing my police career, i'm researching companies who may be interested in someone with my police background.. Government, Private Investigations etc. I dont know many at the moment, but that is when a recce and help from BE comes in.... hopefully!!!

I think you might find HRPD a difficult nut to crack. Government positions might be a tough one too if you are planning on using the community route but I am not sure. There are many folks on here who will have much more specific knowledge than I do. Some newcomers who know all about the journey. I have been here 40 years so I'm not too "au fait" with immigration stuff. I do, however, have knowledge of the Truro area as I live nearby. Good luck in your search and recci trip when you take it.

Its all about the research.. and a little luck!
Which area near Truro is likely to be best for employment, as in a decent sized town? Also nice for housing and schools etc?

Gaz.

Truro, aka Hubtown, is the administrative center for Colchester. Have a look at www.truro.ca and you can find out all sorts of things. It is a nice palce with decent schools, nice areas for housing, some maybe not so nice but in general an OK place. It's about 60 miles to Halifax, about 45 minutes to the airport. There are some jobs in Truro but I couldn't say about your line of work.

Yeah, I agree with the above. You're interested in two counties which are mostly rural, and which surround Truro.

You should focus on where you can find work (most likely in Halifax, Truro, or New Glasgow areas) and then look for your ideal home based on that.

All of rural Nova Scotia is pretty much the same, so you're not going to see much a difference when comparing the small communities of Hants or Calchester county.

Just my two cents. Good luck!

You might find that your police experience is not particularly beneficial in finding jobs, as we found that a lot of suitable jobs required membership of a certain union which you could not join unless you were a Canadian citizen. My OH has 30 years police service and could only find security jobs(low pay & v.cold!) We are going through the C.I. stream via Kings Co.as we intend to start a business there. We were encouraged because we were investing into the community as opposed to taking a job. You might find Hants Co. is similar
because jobs are in shorter supply there. A better bet would be to visit Margot at Truro as she will provide you with contacts at the job centre there.
If you want any more help pm me!!

hi
reading your post with interest as we are hoping to go to the Truro area.
Is there many jobs in the area? Some have told us that there is high unemployment there so high competition for jobs?

It really depends on what your line of work is to be honest, I think as to how successful you will be in finding employment in Truro area. It is an area that is growing and expanding with lots of money being pumped into industry etc and if you are in the medical field, a brand new huge hospital is due to open in 2011 which will be creating 100's of jobs.

We live in Colchester, husband works in Elmsdale which is about 15 mins south in Hants county and I work in Dartmouth which takes me 40 mins door to door. We live 20 mins south of Truro.

We met with some very helpful ladies from the Hants County Development Authority at a recent Emigrate show in the UK - their website may be of use if you haven't found it already...www.hantscounty.com or alternatively the lady I mostly spoke to is Viorica and her email address is [email protected].

Good luck!
