Technically incorrect....... 23 September 1999. A crash landing, if that counts, although no deaths.

There was a Qantas fatal air accident 16 July 1951 .... All seven people on a piston-engined Qantas operated plane in PNG.

But even with that... still pretty safe by comparison

Ok let me rephrase - we won't be going on Qantas as they are an accident waiting to happen. There is definately some shoddy maintenance work going on with their planes.

c) I am sure that Qantas would be able to sustain that ticket cost for long, if it has been correctly reported.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's a deception and the traveller has to pay for the return portion up front

They haven't had a fatality in the jet era, but have in earlier operations. The recent incident with a 2m hole opeining up in the plane at cruise was pretty serious!
Yeap, the one time I've experienced a bad landing was with Qantas:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perth_A..._runway_strike

May not have been a 'crash', but bumping and skidding down the runway is enough to keep me away

Incidentally, I met a pilot not long afterwards who explained to me that at the time Qantas had decided to economise with fuel and so they changed the angle of their approaches. Apparently it was one of the contributing factors with the Bangkok incident.
