H&R interviews August 28th

I wish you the very best of luck Happydj, my other brother in law loves driving over there, and if you're single, he recons you'll love it too. All that time away is for singletons.
I plan on going over in the future, possibly in 12 months, I just want to get all my debt paid off first.
Also, if you can, go just after winter, I've said it before somewhere else, but winter driving is damned hard work, and worse when you're new to the country too.

That brings me to another point - did anyone see that thing on Sky about the Ice Road Truckers - CRAZZZZZY people!!! - just wanted to get it out my system!
Im hoping its going to go well Daz, in the interview I was told it went well but you just never know do you and I dont want to build my hopes up more than they already are.

No problem, if you go in November, you should be up and running on your own by december or the middle of December. You'll almost certainly go over the mountains to Vancouver - ignore the calls on the CB to hurry up etc and just go at your own pace, F&ck 'em, Don't rush.
Soon as you can, get into Walmart, look at the sporting goods and get a coat from there, cheap as chips and very warm.
Where are you heading for? Lethbridge or Edmonton?
One more thing, for really bad weather, they have snow chains, but that said, if you need them, it's time to pull in anyway.

Thanks for the advise - i will definatly stick to it. I mean if someone asks me to speed up - considering it will be my first time... i would just be stupid to listen to the mystery voice!
I take it CB's get used alot over there - not so common in the UK any more

Hi,
Im one of the younger lads (27) who has been for an interview in gateshead on 5th. Personally, I honestly can't wait to get over there and give it my best shot. I don't tend to quit easily and personally (my honest opinion and not of the site etc) the UK is getting screwed more and more each day!
I think it's excellent H&R are willing to spend the extra money it takes to go through the whole long process of interviewing people, getting them over there, getting them trained up and on the road!
Im SURE there will be some REALLY bad times and times where I want to just throw it back in there faces and come running back to the UK - but if I did I guarantee it would only be a week or so before I realise that it's the worse decision I have made and start emailing them begging them to come back!
I honstly have no idea about anything over there - and I am prepaired the best I can prepair myself lol - and some extra extra warm clothes to! But the way Im looking at it is - life's an adventure. You have always got to enjoy whatever it is you decide to do. There will be millions of times where people make the wrong decision and its not for them (im sure thats why many return to the UK) but that's no big deal. After taking a minute to think about it, the best way I can explainmy point is this:
I HATE CHEESE - however I know some people who would make love to the stuff if it wasnt a bit weird! (no names though!) lol
Im going over there with an open mind. Its going to be hard. Take a long time to learn everything. The only thing I can go (IF i get the offer of the job) would be to try my best and find out if it's for me.
I am keeping everything I have crossed to see if Im lucky enough to get offered a job. Truthfully, if I don't... i'll be gutted! Alot of personal things has happened in the UK and its full of hard lessons and bad memories... the way I'm looking at it is H&R are the ONLY company so far I have delt with... who are giving me the chance of a lifetime - to help me change my life for the better!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for everyone else who was at that interview in my home town... and I wish you all the very best of luck! I would be more than happy to keep in touch with anyone who wishes to. Im hoping to go out there in November if I get it.
Oh... and I love Ice Hockey!

Let us guess.
got offered $1000 week?

got offered job in interview?
You work for the money in canada so expect $400-$600 on average. $1000 is thrown at you to get your attention and blind you to the truth. Reality is very very differant.
Everyone gets offered the job regardless as people drop out before the come over. More that come, more bonuses to be had by company.
Winter is very hard and if you take your time in the mountains you'll end up in the ditch coz the canadians wont wait for you. We do 70 in the snow, so if your a tourist type you'll get a ticket home.

got offered $1000 week?
never offered $1000 week, just asked what do i get per mile iwas told 42 cents per mile.
theinsideinsider
You work for the money in canada so expect $400-$600 on average.
my thinking 1000 miles per week at 42 cents = $420, so $400-$600 on average
bonus winning already.

Everyone gets offered the job regardless as people drop out before the come over.
i know people from the august interview who did not get offered job.
theinsideinsider

i would rather work for a company that makes money and not loses money.

and i thought the canadians were friendly,
all in all i am not coming over stary eyed i know it is going to be hard work, different country, rules and climate. i am selling up everything in uk. so when
i get out there i have only got me to look after. as long as the company gives me at least a 1000 miles per week anything else is a bonus.
you only get what you work for.

Theinsider is just a bitter EX Hit and Run driver ( H&R)Your average monthly mileage should be between 11000 and 12000 miles these are easy miles
