There are very few people that can get a job long distance. Unless you have exceptional talents, you'll probably have to come to the US on a VWP vacation to get any offers.

I have like 3 different companies keen on me as a Senior Graphic Design position in Chicago - I'm trying to think if there is any other way

What's the longest time one could go on holiday to USA? 3 months? What if I went on "holiday" for 3 months, I could stay at my uncles place and get by like that and do freelance work just to get to know the company guys so they know who I am and see if we get along - something might come out of it in the long run

Yup - totally agree. That's what I said previously too. No point
applying from here. Mind you there were some people who called
but not from places where I am targeting.

Heaps better just to may be visit on VWP - need this bl00dy financial
crisis to get a tab better...lots of mess.

What's VWP?

I already have guys who are seriously interested as for the past 2 years I've been doing freelance work here and there for some clients in Chicago so they know exactly my standards and quality already. Now I want to make a move to gain a new experience as I've been in London all my life.

I will let the experts respond, but *I don't think so*

You can not work in US on VWP or tourist visa although I think
limited business activity is allowed on tourist visa's but
not work...

Umm... that's illegal. You can not work in the US without employment authorization. You could seriously screw yourself over if you follow this route.

What's VWP?
Google is your friend! Feel free to do a bit of research on your own.

If you were inside the US while doing this freelance work, you have already been working illegally.

Are these staffing agencies or actual companies where you would be working?
