Are you coming around the 10th June by any chance? The petroluem show is here and generally EVERYTHING downtown is booked and typically cost $350 per night at that time anyway! Try booking outwith downtown, maybe in the motel village area (NW), theres a super 8, comfort inn, etc, all smaller hotels.......its right at McMahon Train station so would be a short ride downtown on the train for you! But that could be booked too You could try http://www.englishbb.com/ its a B&B just outside the dalhousie ara - again NW, its a 10 minute walk to the train then about a 15 minute train ride to downtown for testing. |

I'm a little confused, are you just coming over on a visit for 2 weeks for testing the same as you would if you were coming on holiday? Do you mean a PR visa? The form you fill in on the plane has nothing to do with visas. |

Hi everyone
![]() Just new to this site. My husband tests are booked in for August so we are all going to come over to Calgary for three weeks and hire a car to have a good look around and make a holiday out of it as well. My only problem is Chris will be spending a week in tests so can anyone recommend a hotel or BB that has plenty of close amenties, zoo parks etc that I could venture out by myself, not brave enough to drive so would be walking or public transport. I have two children one and five so will need to keep them entertained. Good luck to everyone Julie |

You could try the old favorite 'The Sandman Hotel' it is situated on the corner of 8th Street, 7th Ave SW Downtown Calgary. It is cheap at around £50 per night and is right on the Calgary Transit (train route). From here you can catch a train to the Chinook Shopping Centre, Calgary tower & TD shopping Centre is just a short walk or train ride away and all the main attractions the centre has to offer such as the Zoo. It is also handy for your other halfs testing as it all happens on and around 7th Ave(Another plus being the train is free on 7th ave.. Have a look at www.canadianaffair.com great website to book cheap flights and hotels in the area Best of Luck Gary

Hi and welcome aboard ![]() With little kids, I'd be tempted to opt for one of the hotels with a pool ! Your husband will do tests sporadically during the week and would normally only be away from you guys for a morning or an afternoon - not the whole day. So then you can catch up with him and be chauffered around later in the day ![]() The Sandman Hotel in the downtown area has served the UK officers and families over for tests quite well, I understand. It is central, easy to walk a couple of blocks to all the test sites, and easy access to the C-Train. It does, however, have some interesting local characters hanging around of an evening nearby (unfortunately Calgary does have a huge, visible homeless community - they are generally no bother at all to the general public, but this can seem a little unnerving initially!). It's not been a major issue for families if you are not wandering around at night - and with little people, you may not be .... I would recommend that if you are going to stay in the downtown core, you find a hotel with it's own car park. If you are over for three weeks, I'd be tempted to stay at some different places, depending on budget and dates of tests. August will obviously be busy generally - so book early - and throw some names of hotels out to us to see if we can help ... Finally - there are a few establishments that do self-contained suites which might be a good solution for a three week stay - but may not be central for you to get out on foot ! Dilemma ... Have a look at this link And if you have not already found it, you may find the Wiki (blue tab at the top of this page) extremely helpful ! Very best wishes .... |

I'm new too and my husband (also called Chris!) has tests booked in August too. We've booked the flights but any advice on accomodation would be most welcome. He will be in Calgary far a week before his first tests so I'm hoping he'll have a good look around, I'm trying to do some research now on where to go, nice areas to live , good for kids, schools etc.. Best wishes, Sam. |

Likewise Sam and Chris - welcome to the mad house !
My reply above may be of some use - have a plough through the Wiki on this site and follow links for Calgary - and then ask questions when you have them ! Good luck with everything ![]() |
