Hi there,
I have recently purchased a small 2 bed town house in Alcantarilha on a small development. Can anyone tell me how much council tax is likely to be for the area? I understand that it is dependend on whether it is agricultural land or not? Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks,

Hi, good question but as we haven't been assessed yet I can't provide an answer on the cost.
It has been mentioned that you do need to have a Fiscal representative, a Portuguese National, not necessarily a lawyer, in order to pay it. Is this correct?

No, I just go straight to the Financias Office (their tax office) and pay. Bring the bill and your debit card/or cash with you. They have ATM machines at their office, and you get a receipt right away. You can also pay at any Multibanco ATM machine...but it is all in Portuguese and difficult if you don't have the language. Good luck..

If you have an internet bank account, you can pay council tax via this - its easy to do, quote number on bill and bank make transfer on your authority.
