Default Icing Flowers - Can you take?

Hello, I have searched the the threads to find an answer but haven't come up with anything much so was wondering if anyone had any answers for me?

I have some icing flowers that sat on top of my wedding cake that I wanted to pack in a box for shipping over.

Is this allowed? Anyone know?

We had 2 domestic cats - cartoon stylee, made of icing - one in a top hat, the other in a bridal veil - don't ask - it's a long time ago! Had saved them along with the top tier of the cake...

NOT A CHANCE of them being allowed into AUS.

Would have liked to have brought them (and saved them)to show the kids, when they eventually get married: "Look how uncool Mum and Dad were"!!!

Icing flowers would be OK, they are bascially just sugary sweets.

If they were still attached to a fruit cake though it might be more of a problem - you can bring some fruit cakes in as long as they are in sealed packets - I've brought in maltloaf for example, and Christmas puddings, all sealed, but part of a cake would almost certainly not get past AQIS.
Don't see why the cats wouldn't have been allowed in on their own if they were pure icing though?

Gulping in sadness now - yes, they were pure icing - our shippers told us they would not get past AQIS...

Then again, our shippers took almost a year for our stuff to arrive (left 2 months before we migrated and cleared 9 months after we landed...with no problems in the shipping contents at all...No decent answers why from the company...blamed it on AUS...BIG UK multi national)

We let it go at the time...too busy doing other things but now I've lost my cats unnecessarily, I'm annoyed...:curse:

I travelled back to Aus with OH's parents after they'd been in the UK for their son's wedding.

Kate's mum had an 'icing flower' wrapped up in her suitcase. She didn't think anything of it. It showed up on the xray at customs and caused a bit of a panic though. She had to get it out for examination.

She was allowed to keep it, but was politely told to warn them next time if there is something that might look suspicious in her case.

It was nearly as funny as the time Kate's aunty got stopped by a begal because she still smelt of the bananas she'd been eating before leaving to help reduce the need for a dump on the plane...

I can understand the :curse: - just proves that the info shippers give out is sometimes so dodgy. The last lot of stuff that I shipped the importers were adamant that no food was allowed into Australia and they nearly refused to handle the consignment. I told them that if it was confiscated I would pay so just get on with it, and surprise surprise it was all allowed in.,

That the trick, make sure its all declared and most stuff is fine.

Like the story of the bananas - when my mate came over for our wedding he got stopped by a beagle. The AQIS guy asked him to empty his carry-on bag as the dog thought there was somethign in there. Said beagle then proceeded to savage a pair of my mates boxer shorts! Turns out that he had washed them in apple scented washing powder (don't go there!!) and the dog had detected the smell of apples

I would bring them with me on the plane and just declare them at customs. Sugar should be perfectly OK.

We brought the same across, just put it in a draw in the sideboard, wouldn't bother declaring it. No worries . .
