Wages for Truckers

i know about them, because they recruited me last year,
the truth is that its all lies to get you to sign up. sure they pay for you to come over here to canada, and they will keep reminding you( the goverment pay them ! ) its all smiles and freindly for the first couple of months, or until your family come out to join you , then the miles suddenly dry up. yes its all paid by the mile, if you sit waiting for loads you earn nothing. recently a lot of the european drivers have transferred to transx (canx ) same work but far more honest. and yes they will sponsor you to come over here. the best bet is to stay clear of h&r, they have a terrible reputation. canada is worth the move. look to other companies

Quite surreal .. Start on Wednesday , First thing I get a cheque for $450 to cover cost of my flight over here , then get introduced to the workshop guys , couldn't believe how clean everything was even the toilets ,And a dedicated tyre fitting bay and no retreads/remoulds to be seen .
Then safety guy takes us out for lunch all paid for by Westcan . Come back and start talking to a few English drivers - all very happy and in 4 weeks of talking to driving instructors , drivers from other firms and Westcan drivers not one bad word about the company and yes even I was surprised.
Shifts on fuel are 4 on 2 off and 6 on 3 off or 5 on 2 off then 5 on 3 off.
Take your pick and start when you like

Thursday more of the same and we get cheque for $270 and get sent to the local work wear shop to buy some overalls. Then have lunch , then watch a pneumatics driver tip a load of road salt in the yard , then go home.
This Sunday we fly to Moose Jaw for some in-house training ...Ill let you know how we get on , But so far I am very impressed

No doubt BT will be along in a moment and pi$$ on me chips

OK now in Regina airport awaiting flight back to Calgary , Got my TDG and various other qualifications to help me do my job , Didn't like Moose Jaw at all and really glad I didn't move there , But that's just me , Go and check it out for yourself If you want to work for Westcan at that location. (house prices are very cheap)
Start my in-cab training on Monday and move into my new house on Tuesday when I can finally get all my clothes out of the suitcase for the last time, Because we have moved 5 times since selling the house in the UK. Then wait for the furniture to turn up from England and we finally feel like we have a home .
Still very impressed with Westcan , I've worked for some very big companies in the UK and Westcan have put them to shame so far with their attention to detail and health an safety policies.
Seems they have learnt from various mistakes from a few years ago and really got their act together now.

I'm glad things are working out for you

What didn't you like about Moose Jaw? (never been , so don't know what it's like)

Just not my cup of tea , I would urge anyone wherever they are moving to, Check it out first , Do plenty of research on the area and if houses are cheap there's usually a good reason
PS Now got my CPPI TDG and WHMIS cards and Shell and Esso loading passes so now I'm good to go.
Just dont buy any fuel in the Calgary area till I know what I'm doing

I'm also still immpressed with Westcan, yes we've had a few gliches,as Kamloops has never had immigrants before, but nothing drastic tho. Both parties got stuff to learn, and we're getting their together. Been runing with a mentor this week,2 in a cab but not running as a team,we get hotels every nite +10$ breackfast vouchers
Plus he showed me his wages for last year $90,000 and he takes 1 month in holidays and works 5days on 2 off!!!! cant complain about those conditions of work

$90k kinda puts a different light on the whole thing!! How long has he been on the job and how long until you would expect to be able to achieve the same (or even near)??

If its gremmie about 4 yrs until his mentored trips are finished for the 90k wage, He likes being a passenger taking photos or the scenery,,,,,lol
Only kidding m8
