Same could be done if one lived east of Austin though commute would be horrible. West of Austin -- forget it, that's the Hill Country and no way could you get anything decent for that cost unless it had serious issues (1000 acre dump yard next door etc).

It just pains me to see people making a fast one over those who have scrimped and saved to afford a down payment/mortgage deposit on a property. Believe me, I have had it poor in Lancashire, living on Asda Smartprice food after I got divorced.
People everywhere do the best they can and in a perfect world I'd live in Gorleston, Norfolk or Weymouth, Dorset, but I'm a poor arse, lol.
I have spent 4 years in RSA, 4 years in Aussie and 3 years in USA, and spent time in Blighty. I think the Brits whether they stay at home or go overseas are a blooming treasure
Bless 'em all

I've lived where I didn't have running water for months, had to haul it from a brook and boil it. I've also lived where I had alternate heat or electricity but not both at the same time (Sarajevo). The charm of such rustic conditions soon wears thin.

I kind of like having a log fire....but I do feel like I've taken a step back in time having to have one to keep warm...and not just to look nice...
