It is never too late to make changes.

That is a really good post Rosemary, I agree with you.
I'm in a good mood as I had my daughters review day today and she got some wonderful feedback her teacher is so pleased with her attitude. She is form captain and he said she is a pleasure to teach
I would like to think that is because I'm a good mum I try and do all the things you just said, I praise her, give her loads of attention, teach her to respect others etc

Every other day in school I used to get the cane or the slipper for even the most minor transgessions.
Hell......my ass took more punishment than when Richard Dunn fought Muhammad Ali......and I'm none the worse for it.
In fact it's made me the man I am today.

I have a huge problem with that type of punishment. Positive re-enforcement is far more successful.

I think that parents beating their kids in the old days did cause a lot of harm tbh, my mother is a raving a looney and my dad is a major alcoholic both beaten by their parents both messed up their lives.

The original post was a ludicrous parody (like the Old Men reminiscing in the Python sketch) on the days of corporal punishment where it was considered acceptable to beat children. Obviously it wasn't.....but at the time we just accepted it as the way things were.
Unfortunately now we've gone to the other extreme (as with everything else) where bad behaviour is rewarded with adventure holidays etc.
I don't know if we ever reached a sensible medium between the two poles.....if we ever did I sure as hell missed it.
