its more than likely a last minute type of thing... essentially if the flight is going anyways then it behooves them to sell as many seats as possible, empty seats can't make money, the dollybirds are already paid to service a full plane, the planes budget is already setup to take a full plane... may as well fill it even if all you do is break even or make a quid profit..

its the same principle as package holidays... the company has already paid for it... so selling it at 800quid per person in Jan & 100 quid in August... from their point of view both are good.
