Seek.com brought up eight plumbers jobs in brisbane.
The housing market has slipped back over the past 3 years, I would be very cautious saying there are masses of trade jobs in many places. Perth was the last boom town, and some of the tropical queensland mining towns, probably the best spots to look for a glut of jobs. AC in january you might not have too much of a problem if the usual temps hit and power surges cause the usual problems and desperate rush to install or wither.

Did you have to go to college for long or could you do some of the work involved from home? He's got his provisional licence when we validated our visa in April. Hubby is hoping to get work as plumber once we're out there but would like a few weeks experience (without pay)!!! just for someone to show him the ropes once we arrive, so if any of you plumbers in Brisbane are looking for some help towards end Dec/early Jan let us know.
thanks guys

I haven't been on here for ages been too busy getting my licence
I didn't have to go to college I did a correspondence course(don't think they are available anymore), took about 3 months but in reality about 3 or 4 days work.
When you get here go to the Plumbers & Drainers Board and get your hubby's provisional licence, someone will give him a start. Best bet is to look for a maintenance company of a decent size.
I am up on the Sunshine Coast about an hour and a bit from Brisbane but when you arrive give me shout.

In Queensland yes, not sure about other states. (In answer to the brazing question.)

That's great news. My husband will be well pleased. We are hopefully going to the Gold coast next year.

The offer was a brand new Ute, phone, uniform, 12%super, all brand new tools supplied, four weeks holiday, flex time, and $72K. (PLUS ALL THE TRAINING NEEDED TO GET MY FULL LICENCE, WHICH I CAN DO FROM HOME ON THE PC, NO NEED TO GO BACK TO COLLAGE)
So all the Plumbers coming over, dont believe every thing you read on this site,
although Expats is very very good, it also has its down side.[/QUOTE]
Well done. I know a few plumbers/gasfitters who work in Brisbane and the going rate seems to be mid-low $20s/hr on the books and mid $30s/hr as a suby. The $72k you've been offered is about 35/hr (without getting my calc out) or it the job price work?
I did read an advert for a job today doing emergency work in Brisbane which offered $40k, phone, 9% super and a Yaris.
You have done very well (do they need anyone else?)

No doubt hubbie will be in touch once we are out there. We're hoping to move to Bayside area of Brisbane in December (as long as this house sale goes through smoothly this time). We went up Sunshine Coast in April beautiful place!!!! whereabouts are you living now?

Hi Joanne,
Good news that hubbie already has provisional licence, he will be able to hit the ground running.
We are in Buderim moved here about six months ago from Buddina, have to admit we prefer Buddina as it's right on the beach.
Hope your house sale goes through ok.
Bye for now.
Martin.
