Hi Rach,
I am in Brisbane working at Greenslopes hospital, it is a private one. Also I meant to say conditions and pay are generally better in the public sector which I wished I had realised. If there are people out there considering the wards at Greenslopes it is bloody hard work two People I know who started in November are already looking to move as the ratios were so crap. Im in theatre where it is really busy but not too bad.
I work with a girl who has just moved from Adelaide she was at the Royal there I think and loved it. Sounds a really nice place when she talks about it as well.
Are you moving over on your own or with a whole family??

What about references etc? Are they requested from the Uk, or do you just take as many references as possible with you?
What is the normal practice for interviews if you are still in the UK?
Am toying with the idea of applying before we leave, but other half says it is best to wait till we get out there
Very grateful for all info

They can e'mail your boss for refs so the time difference doesn't get in the way.
I had interview over the phone around 10pm. All very informal. Think it lasted about 45 mins :scared: but it only felt like about 20 as they were so friendly.
Felt very weird being dressed in jeans for an interview though - -felt like I should go and put a suit on.
Much better than face to face interview. I had loads of Q.s for the written down beforehand.
I like the idea of having one lined up before we go - -there's enough to worry about when you get there.
Just my opinion, but it is nice not having to worry about one salary at least.
How far down the process are you?

I totally agree, much better to have something lined up, for peace of mind if nothing else. Other half just so much more laid back than me and feels as though a job will just fall into my lap once we get out there
I am only in the really early stages of starting to apply, but because I am so excited about it, I can't help thinking/planning ahead. And all of our conversations at the moment seem to be about getting out there.
This is all so useful and all the info really helps with the planning.
Thanks very much x

Hi Helen,
I am a nurse but hubby isn't. When we first thought about applying for our Visa and we visited Australia my hubby had an interview for a job.
TWO years later we have finally decided to get round to going and the job is there still waiting for him.
We were very honest with them regarding our timeframes, and have kept them constantly updated with what stage we were at in the whole process.
I think it is worthwhile starting early and just letting them know where you are and when you are aiming to get out there
