Hi,

I'm hoping to move from Bristol in the UK to Vancouver Island. I have a job offer and their lawyers are getting HRDC approval.

Have you decided which removal company to go for? I've had telephone quotes from Shore porters (£2200 for about 180 cubic ft) and Anglo Pacific (£1300 for about 120 cubic ft)

I'm starting to panic, I don't want to sell my stuff until I'v got the HRDC approval, but the job offer is conditional on me starting by the 1st of November so I'm on a tight schedule!

Any advice??

Hi treblemouse

We're letting Robinsons & Pickfords try to outdo each other at the moment.
Both reps quoted us for approx 600 cubic feet which means sharing a container. Robinsons quoted £2500, Pickfords say they will beat it!!
Robinsons offered 1 months free storage in Bristol . . . . . Pickfords offered 1 months free storage in Bristol or Vancouver. Robinsons said we could pay them from the proceeds of our house sale. . . . . . . .Pickfords will as well.
My father has bought us a 3 piece suite to take with us but he lives in Weston . . . . . .Pickfords have offered to collect it free of charge

I'm waiting till one of them offers to take us to Gatwick & I'll pick them!!!!

As for tight schedule I know what you mean, hubby is due to start work in October . . . . . . any tighter & we'll be gasping for breath . . . . . . . . .our buyers are supposed to sign contracts for the house this week . . . . we live in hope
Whereabouts in "Brissle" are you?

Hmmmm, it sounds like you're onto a winner with the Robinsons Vs Pickfords removals. Try for a limousine to Gatwick!!

Good luck with the contracts, we're only renting so we don't have that stress. We're up in Sadly Broke and hoping to be in Victoria next month. We won't miss the unintelligible street signs (every tried driving from Sadly Broke to the airport and following the road signs, big mistake!) the ever changing lanes at the roundabout. The daily 30 minute queue to get under the bridge at Parkway etc etc.

Have you booked your flights yet? As you're flying from Gatwick I'm guessing My Travel or Zoom??

Hi again
Pickfords have got back to me today & quoted me just over £3000, after telling me they would beat Robinsons . The rep said the prices have gone up on the other side of the pond due to the recent strike in Vancouver.
Robinsons are coming back to me on Monday so we'll make our minds up then.

Aaah, good ole "sadly broke", I'm a regular visitor to your neck of the woods & particularly enjoy the Parkway - Sainsburys - UWE traffic I encounter on my way home.

I've just looked at flights & Canadian Affair are ahead of Zoom on price,
I know a few people on this forum have been treated poorly by Canadian Affair, we flew with them last year though & I can't complain (Thomas cook not My Travel)

I'm gonna wait until next week . . . . . by which time my naills will be down to ny knuckles & I will have pulled large clumps of hair out (from my head ) & when our buyer finally signs contracts I will book everything & let you know the outcome.
As for now . . . . . . .back to the
