I know. People in LA and MS will start to have to use masks because of the stench.

I think they'll definitly rebuild and what of the houses that remain intact after the flooding?..they're gonna have one heck of a time battling mold

Perhaps *****ing Halliburton should do some pro bono?
It's amazing how you take every single thing wrong in this country and make it Bush's fault

It's a little bit of payback for what was done to the Clintons. It is amazing how bush supporters squeal when someone is half as nasty to them as Rove and his allies have been to others.

I think it's reasonably fare to say that Bush could have spent a few billion dollars trying to tackle the near-crippling poverty in some areas of the country instead of on waging a private vendetta on the other side of the world.

This wasn't the hurricane that did most of the damage, it was the poor design and "hope" that the levees would do their job if a flood or high tide occurred. They didn't, they broke.
I tend to agree with you.....apart from perhaps some sort of accommodation for those working in the oil refineries and allied industry (as they do in Aberdeen and Singapore where oil workers live offshore and the families stay on the mainland) perhaps New Orleans should be abandoned as a large city residence and people relocating in another part of the State or even out of State - even if the Federal govt. has to pay for it.

My husband returned from Sri Lanka a fortnight ago where he and a number of his work colleagues had volunteered to build new homes with 'Habitat for Humanity' for the Tsunami victims near Galle. There are still many hundreds of people living in 'tent cities' but the Sri Lankan government will not allow anyone to live within 150 metres of the coastline for obvious reasons.

Why wouldn't it? Why wouldn't putting his daughters into the situations for which he's putting other people's children in, and setting the policy for, make him THINK a bit more, maybe be a bit more conservative?

How can you ask people to put up with conditions that you wouldn't want your own children to endure?

yes, but what happens when crypts break and open?

They've already discussed the mold issue.

Noooo..... though I lay a lot of the failure to invest in infrastructure at the feet of Reagan, Bush I and Bush II. Obviously, I wish Clinton had championed investment in infrastructure. However, Clinton's policies didn't roll back safety requirements as some of the Rea-Bush's policies have.

Some problems are the fault of the entire country and all of its citizens. Racism, ignorance, and accepting poverty as a given are all failings of plenty of people here. However, I do look to our leaders to open, rather than shut, people's eyes to the problems in this country.

They pretty well have to rebuild, it is the intersection of rail, road, and water. The fifty miles of dock along the river is the largest port in the USA and handles a large part of the grain exports. A lot will be reclaimed. I'll be interested to see if they up the design of the levees to category 4 or 5 specification.

I thought that but as someone else points out, its a huge port and I guess everyone just built around it.

Humans always seem to build in dangerous areas.
