Web design is still tight. There are plenty of opportunities for programmers but be prepared for lots of competition.

Very little chance unless you come with XML, Javascript, database integration, T-SQL, SQL Server management skills........ I`m an Oracle DBA and I`ve been out of work three years here in the UK. There simply is nothing for anyone anywhere at the moment, unless you`re both very lucky and very specialised.......

How can an Oracle DBA be out of work for 3 years??? DBA & PL/SQL skills are always in demand everywhere!

We're 'hopefully' headed that way sometime this year ... we could hitch up to tackle contract work?? I'm in the same field (ish) as you ..

Perhap you should retrain in doing web design, or perhaps do a microsoft certification?

I take it you`re American ?

Well, I`m not sure what the answer is, but perhaps I`d better ask most of my mates, who`re driving buses or selling used cars at the moment.

In the UK, wages dropped by half, you were expected to do the work of the entire department, relocation packages were totally shelved, no one took anyone one ....... there`s ONE DBA job within 40 miles of here. Probably about 50 DBA`s chasing it, and they`ll take on a consultant with 10 years experience who`s desperate for ANY salary at all.

Believe you me, "IT meltdown" outside London / Home Counties, which I can`t afford to move to - and have never ever ever wanted to work in.

There are MCSE`s out of work in the UK - there are new IT graduates getting less money than shop assistants.......
