Some pics from the Punta Gorda Airshow, FL today. Good airshow despite a reduced military presence thanks to Congress inaction...

I take it everyone saw the Lion Air 737-800 that crashed into the sea in Bali today? According to the registration details it only rolled out of Everett last year. Some insurer just had a very bad day!

I heard about it, but the story lacked details, and there was only one picture, from a distance.

Don't feel bad for the insurers, they are only a fancy bookie, so the odds and stakes are stacked in their favour. While they'll suffer a big payout, unless several more planes go down this year, they're not going to suffer too much pain.

Despite them having a very new fleet by comparison, there's still no way I would ever fly on an Indonesian Airline. Their safety record is on the bad side of appalling. Ever hear of Adam Air?

Good to see everyone managed to get out....
Interesting track record....6 crashes since 2002! But they only mention fatalities in ones of them.

Thumbs up Re: Planespotting

A few from yesterday's trip to Reagan National, Arlington, VA.

The first two were taken at Gravelly Point Park, at the end of the runway - Great Place for Pics.

Nice Love th Delta Mad Dog. There's a really good podcast called 'Airline Pilot Guy' made by a Delta Mad Dog Captain.

Believe it or not I am seriously considering persuing my CPL.

Hope you have plenty of $$$. Assuming you're talking of an FAA CPL (Commercial) you'll need an ATP for any Pt 121 passenger airline work now. Fortunately there's still a large amount of non passenger airline work out there where you won't need an ATP however the pay varies widely as well as duty hours depending on the operation (Pt 135, 91 etc). Good luck.

Well aware of all this, and the fact that life as a regional airline pilot is hard. No rose tinted specs about the job here Not to mentioned having to work for at least a couple of years after getting the license instructing to build hours to 1500.

Sure don't make it easy, nor should they.
