I noticed that this post was your 3rd post and one of the idiosyncrasies of this site is that you cannot receive or send PMs until you have made 3 posts. As you now have your PMs should be successful

Hi Melv70

It's not a god idea putting your e-mail on an open Forum. Their are programs called Bots that trawl the internet looking for anything that they can get like e-mail address's. Better to make use of the PM system it's far safer.

Hi Peter, Yes I know but I couldn't PM anybody so had no choice! Anyway it's a really old e-mail address and is jammed with spam every day so doesn't really matter Well you all have it now so if anybody can/wants to e-mail me and offer me some advise on living in the Algarve and which places are the best/safer I would be greatfull, thanks. I'm not really interested in Albufeira or places like that. I'm looking for somewhere more peaceful therefore cheaper to rent ect but also not too dead! Thinking might check out Silves on my next trip there or maybe even more inland like Evora.

Silves is brilliant love it there and you can get some really nice two bedroom apartments to rent for about 375 a month. So it depends what you are looking for. We do get the tourists a bit but not the same level as the other places!

Somebody told me the other night Silves is a similar kind of town like Tavira ... there's something magical about it. Think next yr i'll take a week out and explore the western Algarve

I find them very similar and we have lived in silves since april 2009 and love it here. The streets are so nice and pretty and its got this amazing atmosphere. And the food is amazing lots of simple places that cook the best portuguese food. Plus we also have a brilliant park for the kids and for exercising.

The only thing I really dont like is the council swimming pools here but we have lots of hotels nearby so cope well without it.

Try this website http://www.carvoeiro.com.

Lots of Xmas fairs in the Lagoa/Carvoeiro area over the next few days, and plenty of "immigrants" will be there. They have a thriving ex-pat community with all sorts of activities arranged throughout the year, so I'm sure you'll meet some new friends very quickly!

I think you have to make X amount of posts before you can send PM's... perhaps someone else can confirm how many?!

Wow the average age on here is now dramatically reduced!

Peter the expat v emigrant... fair point, why do we do it?! perhaps its the "we the expats"(on pedestal) and "bloody emigrants" (lowest of low) mentality? Seriously, what is the difference I wonder in meaning?
