Festival City mall has 4 of the biggest advertising banners you can imagine for TGI's.

They consist of pictures of burgers. One on each. Probably 8ft square (the pics).

It made me hungry and I'd just eaten.

This is in the Doha News today. If I don't eat all day, which happens atleast once a week I dont end up in hospital. Do they force feed themselves ?!


Some 128 people landed in Hamad Medical Corp.’s emergency room complaining of stomach upsets and intestinal problems on the first day of Ramadan yesterday, the Peninsula reports.

That number is only expected to go up this month, doctors told the newspaper, especially after iftaar, the time that Muslims break their fast.

The health problems have been criticized by some scholars here as part of a larger problem of over-consumption during the holy month, spurring a debate about the “right” way to celebrate Ramadan.

The Peninsula reports:

It is a matter of growing concern that the food intake of fellow Muslims doubles during the holy month, household expenses rise and people spend more and more time seeking ways of entertaining themselves than praying, said (Fanar’s Sheikh Abdussalam Al Basuini).

When asked about people revelling the whole night during Ramadan with many visiting ‘sheesha joints’, playing billiards, driving around and spending time in cafeterias that are open the whole night, the Islamic scholar said: “This is all against the spirit of the holy month and the spirit of Islam.”

To be fair, there was also a marked uptick in the number of people attending Friday and Taraweeh prayers, Gulf Times reports.

sevenseas i might just do that- i didnt smoke yesterday at all, and i havent been smoking heavily anyway- between 2 and 5 a day since i started again- more if im out drinking, but im not really enjoying it like I used to. so bloody knackered at the moment ive not been looking after myself at all. maybe time to start...

Disgust is the key. I smoked for 35 years and quit on the spot. You must be disgusted enough to overcome urges. Willpower, I wish you the best.

Actually, the weather was a great motivator here. Though that was probably due to my disgust at the idea of becoming soaked just for a fix of nicotine.

I flew back from New York during Ramadan once. The time we were leaving the way the earth spun and the speed we were traveling and the length of the pilots nose hair meant they only served food for a 30 min window. I was asleep. They refused to let me eat when I woke up.

The airline? Kuwait airways.

It was dry as well.

Only benefit was it was less than 200 quid return to JFK.
