I did say that the patriotism factor would kick in if the government tried to reduce/take away sevicemen allowances, also they have the right to vote against the government..457 peeps don't!
You were comparing, and it's a far fetch comparision indeed. For a start one could argue that service men and women do it for the love of the job, need to protect their country, etc, etc. It's certainly not for financial gain. You on the other hand have moved to Australia for purely personal gain, whether that be financial or lifestyle, etc.

As for the vote this is no different to an Aussie who is temporary in the UK. If you feel strongly about equal rights for 457 holders, which I do agree, write a letter to the immigration minister. I have before and their henchmen do read it and they do respond. Writing to the treasurer about LAHFA will probably be a waste of time.

The new employer has to endorse it. If they don't then there's nothing you can do.

What I was saying was that it is a choice.....take the emotion out of it (as I have done due to the fact that BOTH apply to me) and you will see that. As for 'love of the job and need to protect their country', that my friend is a load of rubbish!! Young people join for excitement and the 'idea' that its all world travel and exotic places to visit...you NEVER join thinking you will be shot at!! As for 'you on the other hand have moved to Australia for purely personal gain' that is also rubbish. It was change that ignited my wish to move, it was for job satisfaction and a different environment for my family.
Again, people on here have used the 'it was your choice and you knew the risks' argument...I was merely putting it into a different context and saying.."Oh, do you feel the same way now???"

They probably mean that with the change coming on 1st July he would no longer be eligible anyway, unless he is a FIFO employee (Fly In Fly Out).

As I said, some who argue, but really it's not really an appropriate comparision.

Anyhow I think you sealed your fate over here when you pretty much implied you would like to buy a house in Oz thus demonstrating your intention to remain permantly. Cake .... eat .... well .... not really in the spirit of things is it?

What a ridiculous statement?? Saying I would like to buy a house in Oz is a statement of intent is laughable. I would like to shag Kylie Minogue but thats just a wish...not gonna happen. People can 'like' to do anything they want, it signifies neither intent or reality. I would like to buy a house in Crete, does that now mena I need to start my immigration process for there?
No, sorry Beoz you have failed there.

You are now just arguing for the sake of it against me, there is no need. We have varying opinions and are entitled to them but my statement of comparison, as you term it, is based upon real life experience, not assumptions and opinions.

Where did you read this? I work for one of the Big 4 and this would be really useful information for me.
