Default Re: Coming to Oz in Sept - where do you recommend?

Just read my e-mail back and i would just like to qualify that I have nothing against Perth or Brisbane so apologies for any offense caused. Like anywhere they have their attractions, but purely personally speaking wouldn't be my choice...no offense intended.

You might consider Brisbane. The cultural scene has made great strides over the last decade under premier Anna Bligh and, as befits its relative size in Australia, is a strong 3rd well in front of places like Adelaide/Perth on reported numbers and improving - though of course well behind Sydney/Melbourne overall. It's visual arts scene in particular is going gangbusters with the queensland art gallery/gallery of modern art having sometimes out ranked melbourne and sydney in recent years. It also has a decent festival line up. We are now seeing interstate vistors flying into Brisbane in numbers due to some exclusive GOMA exhibits.

It is also a more laid back city than Sydney and Melbourne and does not suit snobby/pretentious people. Public transport can vary between poor and excellent so as a newcomer you just need to position yourself in the excellent spots. The citycats in particular are fantastic. I'm not sure from your post whether it would be too big or too small for you so can't recommend totally without knowing more.

Yeah, come to Adelaide, dogs are like rats here but everyone has pretty much the same breed . Noone bothers to pick up after them either . Its certainly not snobby or pretentious and if you dont go too far south you will be ok for transport with buses and the train being pretty good and cheap into the city.
