Hii all, so i sent out my I-129F application 3 months ago, and a few weeks later i got a letter saying they received it and that first part was approved and my fiance is eligible. since then i havent received anything. and i was wondering if me or my fiance (in England) was supposed to do anything else or just wait to hear something?! as far as my research was concerned i was supposed to wait til i heard anything. but now im second guessing. please help, thanks!

The notice said that USCIS has received your petition and accepted it for processing. The petition is not yet approved, and at 3 months it may still be in a box on a shelf waiting to be given to a case officer for adjudication.

Almost certainly right. There have been a few reports by petitioners that they were called for an interview with regard to their petition, but it's extremely rare.

No need to worry. You probably still have another couple of months to go until the NOA2 (approval notice).

Probably, right.

ive put my receipt number in the UNCIS status thing and this is what it said..

On February 21, 2012, we received this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E), and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or contact our customer service center aas will

^^ i havent received anything apart from the receipt thing, so im worried maybe it got lost in the mail?? should i contact them or just try and be patient. cuz i havent received a notice describing anything? and according to the status thingy im only on the initial review block so i apparently still have 8 steps to go and its been over 3 months!

^^^ This one. ^^^

A typical I-129F approval can take up to 5 months. You submitted it in February. If you don't hear anything by the end of July, then you can start wondering.

"the receipt thing" is the notice that this online status refers to. Don't expect the online status to change for another month or two.

I always have to chuckle when I see people, and USCIS itself, refer to "tracking status". How meaningful is it to track something that never changes for essentially its whole existence?

Lost in the mail? It probably hasn't even come to the top of the pile on the officer's desk. You've got another 2 months or so before that happens.

"it" was the Receipt Notice, which she's already received a couple of months back. She does not yet understand the USCIS' cryptic one-size-does-not-fit-all messages.

You don't - that's the point. Do not make ANY plans that cannot be moved changed or cancelled until you have the visa in hand.

You don't. The US government isn't interested in whether or not their procedures are an inconvenience to you.

Here's the thing... the visa is valid for 6 months, and he has almost 3 months in which to get married... that's almost 9 months to plan a wedding once he gets the visa.

A major problem that many people have is that they are just totally impatient.

On February 21, 2012, we received this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E), (that shows it wasn't lost in the mail)
and mailed you a notice (that's the letter you said you got after a few weeks) describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or contact our customer service center .....

Nothing has been approved yet and your receipt letter does not mean he's eligible like you said in an earlier post. It means your submission was complete enough to be accepted for review. You included and signed all the forms and your check was for the correct amount. Otherwise they would have mailed it all back to you.

A way to plan a wedding is get the visa in hand. Then it doesn't have to be used for 6 months. Then you have 90 days to marry once he uses the visa. That's 9 months for scheduling a wedding if you push it to the limits.
