I think you're right about not waiting - it makes sense to get the application in asap. I am not sure how long CIC would hold onto the passports. If we were to submit the FSW applications in Canada while on holiday, I would worry that the passports may not be returned in time....

I'd suggest you download the application pack for FSW so that you can see the forms etc required, and also the document checklist. That will show you exactly what you'll need to send, and only a copy of your passport is required.
