Well done Spurs. That was just weird.
I like how the Ref "had" to give another yellow for kicking the ball away but didn't feel like giving one for the dive right before it. |

I see Ferguson dropped Ashley Young for Nani so that no-one will go on about about theatrics and play acting.....

Oh, so Gareth Bale receives stick because he plays for Spurs? I thought it was because they both fall to ground too easily. Eduardo rightly got criticised for diving when he played for Arsenal, but it wasn't because he played for us. |

Van Persie had to be the PFA player of the Year, but how did Walker get the Young Player of the Year ahead of Sergio Aguero, Gareth Bale, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Daniel Sturridge, and Danny Welbeck
, and how on earth did Parker get a nomination??? |

What a strange weekend of football.
First Liverpool prove again that this is a comically inept season for them. Their only possible salvation is that the teams sitting right on top of them (Fulham below and Everton above) have to play each other next - making it slightly more unlikely that Liverpool won't finish 10th. And I'm absolutely sick and tired of hearing after every game that a) it was just bad luck again, and b) you can't blame Dalglish for another shit performance - it was the team's fault. Every team in the league seems to be good or bad due to their manager, yet according to a lot of my fellow Liverpool fans Dalglish seems to have absolutely no effect over his team. Especially Suarez and Johnson who were absolutely appalling yesterday. Think of it this way - Liverpool just lost to West Brom and virtually nobody was surprised. Least of all Roy Hodgson. That Man Utd/Everton game was amusing. I went out after half time expecting it to level off. Silly me - I should have known that as Ferguson called Evans the best in the league that he'd have a shocker - but not quite as bad as Ferdinand and Rafael. I kow Vidic is good (and then some) but I'd be a tad worried that teams keep showing up at Old Trafford and completely turning them over. I was surprised too that Ferguson didn't bring Ashley Young on to win a penalty in the customary Fergie Time period at the end there. And that was the first time I've ever really understood why so many coaches just don't rate Carrick. When he's ticking he's good to watch - but he was completely bossed out of the game by Fellaini and Pienaar. I was just reading in the Guardian how Newcastle have to finish 4th or they'll lose all their players and slip out of being CL contenders like Man Utd, Citeh, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs. Hang on - Spurs? If Spurs don't make 4th (and I really don't think they will) then that just cements that they managed to make it up there one year - and then they may not do it again. A bit like Everton really. And the way Redknapp and Spurs fans completely blasted the Europa League as beneath them would be karmic justice because making the CL once isn't the same as being annoyed because you're Man Utd and are now in the EL. Bit weird to hear sooo many Spurs fans on the radio saying that Redknapp has to go now (it's an almost universally agreed point from what I read too that he's actually shit and they want shot of him). You should get Ramos in as manager - he was doing a top job before Redknapp. More importantly though - Liverpool aren't even mentioned as traditional CL contenders anymore. Well done Kenny - that's quite an achievement. Well done to Kyle Walker for that award. Still think Aguero should have run off with that though. Especially as the talk was that it was between Walker and Oxlade-Chamberlain - who at the time had only played 5 games for Arsenal. I hope Walker is good though over the long term. At the moment he looks like the new breed of English defender - which is a polite way of saying he can run around a lot but doesn't seem to be able to defend (step up Glen Johnson, Phil Jones etc). All of which always brings me back to the fact that Leighton Baines at Everton has been solidly very good for a long time and never gets a mention because he doesn't always try and run straight to the corner flag. Actually Baines and Leon Osman make me sad because I know that they'll not make the England team despite being consistently good, and Walker, Jones and Aaron Lennon will - all of whom just seem to be fast and sometimes can pass the ball. I note too that Talk Sport (I know - stop listening....) are going on about Redknapp allegedly "losing the dressing room" and telling Adebayor, Lennon and Kaboul they'll never play for him again. Sounds unlikely - especially as they'll likely play next week. I sort of feel bad for Spurs - they were playing well above their level for a bit. But now players like Assou Ekoto and Bale just look really average. If there is any truth to the story though that Redknapp has been "called out" by Adebayor and Kaboul as not really caring about Spurs because he has another job lined up already it would be strange retribution for all the other clubs he suddenly abandoned for a "better" deal though. I've actually forgotten now why Newcastle fans don't like Mike Ashley. I'm also assured that even if Newcastle make the CL that he'll do something silly like sell Tiote (for a huge profit) and Demba Ba (who does have a dodgy knee) and they'll get knocked out in the first round - so that they can go back to telling him how much he is killing the club. But for me - a man so irritated over the years by ex-players like Shearer going on and on about how Newcastle are one of the 3 biggest clubs in England" - I have to say that it's been a joy to watch them this season. I will personally fellate one of you if Ashley Young dives for a penalty on Monday against Man City. And considering if he plays it's likely then please form an orderly queue. Still - for all you Man Utd fans laughing at Man City being so many points clear and choking - it'd be somewhat amusing to see Man Utd choke after an 8 point lead as well. Why is it fashionable now for full-backs to be really fast but not be able to defend, and for wingers to be shockingly one-footed but to play on the wrong wing? Goodbye Wolves. Pretty poor showing there. Last edited by Captain Cheesestick : Apr 23rd 2012 at 10:43 am. |
