Default Long Term Lets?

Hi - my first post here - sorry if Im breaking any unknown rules. Hubby and I would love to come out to Portugal for 6 months or even a year - can anyone recommend areas where we could rely on public transport and reasonably close to tourist areas if family come to visit? Also what would we be looking at for a 2 bed property? Thanks in advance!

Just to give you an idea, I have been looking for a long term 6 month let in Praia Da Luz from October to March inclusive. Its looking expensive, as the very best I can get at the moment is €400 per month for a 2 bed apartment, and that is not close to the beach which I really wanted. I may have to abandon my search.
Its annoying, as I can find nice apartments in Spain for upwards of €150!!! I guess because of the higher crime there owners just want someone to be in their investments......

That was the outcome I was starting to find too! I would have thought the state of the European economy we would have been getting some good long term deals to guarantee them an income! Thanks for getting back to me

Hi . It may sound expensive but water and electricity combined, over the winter will be 120e/150e per month .You also get free T.V. - no pool ,condo ,gardening fees . A luxury home in a beautiful location , stunning beaches ,world class golf courses ,superior standard food at a fraction of the price, for similar ,in Spain , Italy ,Ireland etc. Sunshine ,with October /November in the 20*s and higher . And the freedom to have your friends and family to stay throughout the 6 months .All this for 100E per week between 2/3 people . If I could pay that ,instead of the mortgage,I would be very happy indeed .

Not my circumstances! I am single, ALL the places I have had quotes for so far the utilities are extra, and whilst I would dearly love to winter in Praia Da Luz it seems that Spain is 1/3 of the price (so I can have THREE winter breaks in Spain rather than ONE in Portugal.) However, I take the point that Portugal is a finer country with a superior and less costly standard of living..
I would happily forgo 2 breaks in Spain for 1 in Luz however. We'll see!

400€ plus bills will get you a good 2 bed in the East Algarve, Luz is inherently more touristy and therefore a tad more expensive.

My apologies! It was not my intention to mislead anyone and the listing looked to me like 110 per month, as per the text I pasted from the email to my friends.
I hope my mistake hasn't inconvenienced anyone or given false hopes, as it has me!
