Room to Rent/Couchsurfing - La Linea / Gib
Hola
I am planning on moving across sometime in May to seek work. Yes another one he he Still in the process of researching!
I am trying to source accommodation for when I first arrive, then I will look for a room to rent asap.
I have taken a look at the useful info for living in Spain and the Handy Info thread, really helpful I found the estate agent list, but only want to rent a room at this point!
I have posted on the Welcome Inn and searched the Spain section for:
Gibraltar / La Linea / Gibraltar and La Linea rooms to rent, again, really helpful
I have also googled!!!!
HELP!!!
Can anyone advise me of any room to rent websites?
I have only sourced one, idealista.com. I need the sites in English!!
Can anyone point me in another direction, re rooms to rent?
I have friday-ad-gi, to check out.
OR
Couchsurfing?
OR
Hostels Emile Hostal, Gib, 17 Euros a night, dormitory, has poor reviews! and I have sourced a few hotels/hostals in La Linea but they are a little expensive, 30Euro a night! re trying to keep my costs to a minimum till I source work!
All advice would be soooo appreciated, Mandy.

I wish you luck, but moving out with what sounds like very little money, no job and no Spanish sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. What type of work are you hoping to get?

Hi Agoriera
Thank you for your post.
I have sufficient funds but want to use them wisely! And I realise I will have to spend whatever the going rate is for accommodation!! so just researching my best options Do have any recommendations re couch surf/room to rent? websites or organisations / where I can look when I arrive?
My Spanish is beginners, I took a 40 hour Spanish course whilst travelling South America for 5 months, just returned, managed to get by and intend to continue with learning when I arrive. I know it will be a whole new vocabulary I will have to learn tho, but I'm sad , I enjoy it!!
I'm an Administrator, I have 20 years experience within many roles / environments, government, training..... I am willing to temp at the start and would welcome all office roles/environments. I realise finding a permanent post will take time!
As I have just returned from travelling following redundancy this is an ideal time to take the opportunity to move abroad. I'm from East Yorkshire, have no commitments and looking for a new direction and challenge.
No matter where I am this situation is unfortunatley, going to be hard!!!!!!
Hope the above helps!!!! If you can help in any way, really appreciated. Private message me if that will be better.
Mandy

No, can´t help, I´m afraid. There seems to be quite a bit of sharing of apartments, casas etc going on, but I can´t see anything in English. There are adverts here but all in Spanish and no idea how successful the site is.

You can search for flatshares here - http://www.easypiso.com/ - there's a language selection box so you should be able to get it in English

Word of mouth, public and works notice boards are the best way to find flatshares in Gibraltar, or ask in the bars were there are lots of expat staff.

Did I miss something... it strikes me there's little difference along the coast with regard to job prospects (simply worse inland) but why La Linea/Gib?

Work wise it is the construction industry that has suffered most and it is the Spanish workers who have taken the biggest hit.
Property prices have fallen very little and asking prices are still going up, but sales volumes are down but not to the extent seen elsewhere.
So long as the betting industry is buoyant Gib will be very well placed, and there has been good news for that market from the USA.
