Default New resident, Travel document (I-131) timelines

Hello All

I am a canadian citizen married to a US citizen. Both of us live in Canada and I still have my job in Canada. I used my Immigrant visa a few days ago to become a US permanent resident. We are planning to travel back to Canada for upto a year before we move to the United states (short reason: having a baby in Sept. this year).

To that end, we were thinking of applying for a travel document (Re-Entry permit using I-131) to express our intention of moving to the US in a few months. We had the following questions and were wondering if someone out there had some experience with this:

1. How much time does it take between sending in the filled in I-131 and being asked for the Biometric appointment?

2. Who decides the location of biometric appointment? Is it pre-determined by the USCIS? Can it be done in Toronto/Montreal instead of California?

If someone can let us know their experience or any relevant pointers, we will appreciate it very much.

Best Regards
Kev

Yes, it's predetermined by USCIS depending on your US address. Biometrics cannot be done outside the USA.

Best Wishes,

1. After you submit the application and then receive your biometric appointment, the length of time is a fairly easy computation.

2. no.

:-) ... Once I apply for I-131 - Re-Entry permit ... how soon do you think I will be asked for a biometric appointment?
