Default Is an Alien Number A# The same as a I-94 Number?

We are weeding through mounds of paperwork for my wife and this is one

The set of numbers printed on the I-94, on the upper left hand side of the
card, is the ADMISSION NUMBER--not the A #. Admission number has 11 numeric
characters with the last 2 separated by a space.
A# has 8 or 9 characters and written in Block 20(INS File) of the Arrival
portion of the I-94 if you were assigned one. It should also be annotated by
the Immigration Officer on the departure portion of the card and the ADIT
stamp on your passport.
